AROUND SOUTH MISSISSIPPI
Historic home grant workshops set
Homeowners and others with structures of cultural, architectural or historic significance, at least 50 years old, can attend a workshop for the congressionally funded $26 million Hurricane Relief Historic Preservation Grant.
The workshop series helps people in the Mississippi Gulf Coast National Heritage Area (which is the six lower counties) decide if they might be eligible and to help fill out applications. Tonight a workshop will be from 5 to 8 p.m. at Bay-Waveland Middle School, 600 Pine St., Bay St. Louis. Another workshop will be Thursday from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. in City Chambers, 603 Watts Ave., Pascagoula.
The grants are administered through the Gulf Coast Field Office of the Mississippi Department of Archives & History. The grant application process is in three rounds, and 57 sites were selected from the first round in mid-December. Deadline to be considered in the second round is Jan. 19. Details: 435-1180.
